Have your filed return information nearby.
The official refund tool may ask you for information from your filed return. Depending on the agency, that may include information such as:
Tax year
Taxpayer ID / SSN
Filing status
Refund amount
IMPORTANT
Enter sensitive information only after you have reached the official government website. APK does not collect this information on the Refund Status page.
Federal and state refunds are tracked separately.
Choose the state in which you filed to continue to the appropriate official refund-status service.
Federal and state refunds move through different systems.
FEDERAL
- Filed with: IRS
- Tracked through: IRS refund system
- Result: Federal refund status
STATE
- Filed with: Applicable state tax authority
- Tracked through: State refund system
- Result: State refund status
Receiving one refund does not necessarily mean the other tax agency has completed its processing.
What does the refund tracker mean?
RETURN RECEIVED
The tax agency has received the return and processing is underway.
REFUND APPROVED
The refund has been approved and is being prepared for delivery.
REFUND SENT
The refund has been sent using the approved delivery method.
Give the tax agency time to receive your return.
Refund-status availability depends on how and when the return was filed.
Many refunds may be processed relatively quickly, but timing depends on the return and tax agency. Use the official refund-status system for the most current available information.
A delay does not automatically mean something is wrong.
Refund processing may take longer when a return requires additional review or correction. Possible general reasons may include:
- information requiring additional review
- identity verification
- missing or inconsistent information
- amended return processing
- direct-deposit or banking issues
- paper-return processing
- tax-agency adjustments

Is the refund different from what you expected?
A tax agency may adjust a refund based on information associated with the return or other applicable circumstances. If you receive correspondence explaining a change:
- keep the complete notice
- review the explanation
- note any response date
- contact APK if you need help understanding the tax information involved
Filed a correction? Use the appropriate status tool.
Amended returns may use a different status process from standard refund tracking. Use the official amended-return status service for the applicable tax agency.
Check your refund without giving sensitive information to the wrong website.
APK does not need your Social Security number, ITIN, tax-agency password, bank information or expected refund amount simply to direct you to an official refund-status service.
USE OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT SITES
Look for verified government tax-agency websites. Only enter sensitive information after you have reached the official government website.
DO NOT SEND REFUND CREDENTIALS TO APK
APK does not need tax-agency passwords or refund lookup credentials.
USE SECURE APK CHANNELS FOR TAX DOCUMENTS
Do not send tax documents through general inquiry forms unless APK has specifically provided a secure process.
Common questions after you file.
Does APK issue my refund?
No.
Federal and state refunds are issued by the applicable government tax agency. APK can help prepare or review tax information, but APK does not control government refund processing.
Can APK tell me exactly when my refund will arrive?
No.
APK cannot control or predict government processing. Use the appropriate official refund-status service for the most current information available about your return.
Can APK make my refund process faster?
APK cannot speed up tax-agency processing. If a tax agency requests additional information or sends correspondence, APK may be able to help you understand what is being requested.
Should I contact the tax agency if my refund is still processing?
Start with the official refund-status service and follow the instructions shown there. If the tax agency provides specific follow-up instructions, use those instructions.
Can APK check my refund status for me?
The safest and most direct approach is generally to use the appropriate official government refund-status service. APK can help you understand the tax return or related correspondence when professional review is needed.
Why did I receive my federal refund but not my state refund?
Federal and state returns are processed by different government agencies. One refund may be issued before the other. Check each refund separately using the appropriate official agency tool.
Why is my refund amount different from the return?
A refund may be adjusted for different reasons. If a tax agency provides a notice explaining the adjustment, review the complete notice carefully. APK can help review the tax information or correspondence if needed.
